Kanha National Park — The Lively Jungle Where Nature Breathes
“You don’t just visit Kanha — you feel Kanha.”
Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of India’s most vibrant and alive forests — a land of sweeping meadows, whispering bamboo groves, towering ant hills, and the rare hard-ground Barasingha found only here in the world.
Located in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Kanha is more than a tiger reserve — it’s a living storybook of India’s wild soul.
The Legend of Taru – The Soul of Tadoba.
Kanha is the only home of the hard-ground barasingha, a true conservation success story. The forest is also known for its land of giant ant hills, with iconic red mounds dotting the landscape. Rare Indian blackbuck sightings can be enjoyed near the Kisli buffer and open grasslands, while the Mukki and Kisli zones are famed for frequent encounters with Royal Bengal tigers and leopards. Adding to its charm is Kanha’s rich biodiversity, from the delicate blue Mormon butterflies to the striking Malabar hornbills, making every visit a vibrant exploration of wildlife.
Safari Zones
The core zones of Kanha, which are permit-controlled and form prime tiger habitat, each offer a unique experience. The Kanha Zone is famous for its lush meadows, herds of barasingha, regular tiger sightings, and the breathtaking Bamni Dadar sunset point. The Kisli Zone features mixed forests, where gaur, sambhar, and the occasional tiger can be spotted. The Mukki Zone offers raw wilderness and the thrill of close-range big cat encounters, while the Sarhi Zone is quieter, making it ideal for birdwatching and spotting elusive sloth bears.
Buffer Zones (Offbeat, flexible booking):
The Khatia Buffer is known as a hotspot for leopard sightings, while the Sijora Buffer is prime territory for sloth bears and wild boars. The Khapa Buffer offers excellent chances to witness morning tiger movements, adding excitement to early safaris. For nature enthusiasts, the Phen Sanctuary is a treasure trove of biodiversity, rich in birds, reptiles, and butterflies, making it a must-visit for those seeking a more varied wildlife experience.
Entry Gates
The Khatia Gate serves as the entry point to both the Kanha and Kisli core zones, offering access to lush meadows and mixed forests. The Mukki Gate leads directly into the Mukki core zone, known for its raw wilderness and close big cat encounters. The Sarhi Gate provides entry to the tranquil Sarhi core zone, ideal for birding and sloth bear sightings, while the Sijora Gate is dedicated to buffer safaris, giving visitors a chance to explore leopard hotspots and other diverse wildlife outside the core areas.

Wildlife Highlights
Kanha’s diverse wildlife includes leopards, sloth bears, gaur, dholes, and the iconic barasingha, alongside the playful Malabar giant squirrel and the prehistoric charm of crocodiles. The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with a rich variety of avian species adding color and melody to the forest.
